Maria books

As part of an Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) funded project (ASEM/2014/095), we developed three place-based, dual language picture books to help women farmers in Papua New Guinea remember important marketing, budgeting and saving lessons and engage in early learning with their children. These women farmers wanted to help their children succeed at school but felt they were unable to do so due to their own lack of schooling or literacy skills. We assured mothers that they could help their children by talking with them about the books. The Maria books have been very successful with village community educators, teachers and students alike.
