Duplo lego project in PNG

Playing with blocks help young children develop spatial skills, language skills, social skills, creativity and imagination. A media call out to the Canberra community for unwanted Duplo blocks resulted in 65 kilograms of blocks being collected. The blocks were distributed to four preschools in East New Britain Province in Papua New Guinea. The teachers were given some training in using the blocks to teach mathematics and inspire story telling. We will measure the children’s cognitive skills in their first year of formal schooling and compare their skills with children who did not have access to the blocks.
